ltd repress! by now, chicago s home of the ghetto house movement, dance mania, should need no introduction! if you didn t already know, they are the original purveyors of that hard-ass, stripped back, tough, hitting electronic funk, they ve never held back with their output. operating since the late 80 s the label has gained legions of fans over 2 decades as well as a certain notoriety and one of their most well-known artists has got to be the legendary dj deeon and his various production pseudonyms! this, the second in a series of samplers focusses on some of his unreleased cuts, rarities and classics from the dm catalogue. kicking things off with the demented over-sexed jacking off of da dik suk this ep shows you what s up from the jump. lifted off 1996 s freak like me ep this is vintage deeon to the core! this is followed up with the minimal, acidic runnings of 1112 , from deeon s 1996 chop shop release, a wigged out, simplistic groove that just won t stop. classic chicago weirdness that simply just slams. the frenetic phenomenon opens up side b, produced under his mute pseudonym and originally released in 1997 this is a sure-fire rarity from the dm vaults. a tough one to track down and a real essential under the radar cut. also featured is the wild acid of playground productionz the box , here in unreleased (!) rare remixed form by another chi-town legend - paul johnson. top shelf business. last but certainly not least is another playground jammer in the form of the killer vertigo lifted off the same ep from 1994 which is surely enough to whet even the toughest of appetites. file under jackin . every track on here has been remastered and repressed with the full consent and involvement of dj deeon and parris mitchell, selected and programmed from deeon s private archives and dat tapes for above board, london. 100% hater free.

while perfectly fitting the deep house cabinet, this ep taps on various styles within this genre. jayson wynters, well known for his releases on mr gs phoenix g label and dont be afraid, sets the pace with sherellas kiss a powerful groove and beautiful chord pads embedded in an upbuilding percussive atmosphere. this is a very personal track from jayson and this dedication to sherella is testimony to the immortality that can be found in the power of a soulmate. italian artist duccio, who previously released on the label greta cottage workshop delivers a melodic track with mediative vocals while ukraines kiddmisha gets his well deserved second appearance on batti batti with an immersive electro cut. hailing from chicago, the artist weakmassive makes his debut to the label with a smooth acidic track which could be a perfect opening or an encore to a long night out!

coming next from adult only: the repress of one of the most sought-after 12s from the label back catalogue. ao19: “formula express – main course” was originally released in 2002 and featured guillaume la tortue, jef k and chris carrier.
this is actually some of the last records ever produced by the mysterious guillaume la tortue, one of the pioneer of electronic music in france, who’s quoted by laurent garnier in his infamous “electrochoc” book as one of his main influence back in the days.

the record opens on the “main course”: a classic tech-house number with a beautiful 909 beat and a tasteful use of various samples and fx all through the track. the funky vocals still sound fresh today but the secret here (as often with chris carrier’s related work) is the groove – the kind of groove that reminds you summer days in the park while the strong bass-line announces already the next track.
on the flip, “starter” stands out as the perfect dancefloor killer with an infernal groove and a real fat analog bass-line that will keep you moving whether you want it or not. add just a few crispy tribal percussions on a classic raw 909 beat and you got the simplest and dubbiest song of the record but also the most efficient dancefloorwise.
the last cut, “apple pie”, might be the deepest of them all. spacy melodies and trippy vocals in the background make you first feel like you’re chillin on some extraterrestrial beach far away from earth. it starts as a nice breakbeat building the atmosphere before slowly evolving into a more 4-4esque tech-house with the bass coming in only after a couple of minutes. even if the sound was resolutely analogic, the whole ep is extremely well produced with a special care for details. at many levels this three-track ep is a landmark in the label history.

after a few years on hiatus, one electronica has gone all out in with a heavy debut 4 tracker from new member thought camera. the young belfast born producer who has been very busy in the studio putting together an arsenal of electronic weapons has also enjoyed an increase in popularity and profile in the local scene due to his hard work and commitment to the cause. with such a strong release about to drop in the next few weeks and with more unreleased material on its way this guy is worth keeping an eye on as a rising talent. without using too many bullshit analogies – this is release is simply dancefloor bliss and a djs dream that will be keep at the front of a record box for years to come and could be a favourite among various styles. the title track astral pilot comes in strong with spatial glitchy electronic chatter and tubular echoes that are pretty damn haunting. headspace comes in on a2 which is the antithesis of serenity and meditation that the name suggests. this acidic jack track is upbeat and laden with bass bleeding all over the place. flip it over and you have lifeforms on the b1 which is the most technical track on the release which ebbs and flows between solemn and sombre leaving you emotionally twisted yet intrigued this is one to look out for! obsession which aptly depicts this track a stalker in the night, haunting, imposing, friday 13th shit. not for the faint hearted.

having previously released some rare solo material from ende shneafliet member hanjo erkamp aka dr. c. stein, artificial dance is now serving up something special from the cult dutch minimal wave band’s lesser-known side project, king ende shneafliet. adding king to their name in honour of original dub maestro king tubby, king ende shneafliet produced far more experimental and out-there material than their better-known big brother. they released their first cassette, dimension mix chapter i in 1981 via cult label trumpett, with batches of follow-up material trickling out on various obscure tapes and later cd-rs up to the year 2000. artificial dances first dip into the dimension mix archives a second vinyl volume will follow later in the year features selections from chapter ii (1999), which was originally recorded between 1981 and ’88. the magical, mind-altering music is raw, lo-fi, spaced-out and forward-thinking, combining effects-laden, sample-heavy sound collages and reverberating ambient soundscapes with pulsating proto-electro jams, moody minimal wave instrumentals and kosmiche-influenced throw-downs. it effectively joins the dots between early-80s, diy electronic exploration and dub soundsystem culture.

what do you get when you cross a frenchman, a dane, two irishmen and a swede? the debut various artists compilation from kyoku records, of course. gathering the producers who make up their whole discography thus far, the melbourne-based imprint are welcoming back dorsi plantar, sune, long island sound and ethyene (alongside folamour and marc bianco). translating from japanese to a befitting -dancing birds-, the odoru tori ep is revitalizing the elegant origami series for one last spin. the orizuru, hachidori, oumu and hakucho, that is, the paper crane, the hummingbird, the parrot and the swan are bringing the handmade array to a suitable conclusion. on the a side, the scandinavian connection is responsible for bringing some summer heat. dorsi plantar sheds his usual wistfulness for a slightly moodier, more functional track with -senorita lolita-, although still incorporating some of that playful sampling he s now come to be known for. -californicate- from sune takes a more laidback approach and channels the breezy and carefree atmosphere of the coastal golden state. on the flip side, long island sound follow the same recipe that made -delusions- such a big hit with the intricate sampling and eloquent arrangement of -ease in-. to top things off, ethyene, with the help of folamour and marc bianco, close out the record with a groovy, vocal number that sees them employ their signature french touch formula to great effect on the simply titled -good-.

conforce returns under his silent harbour guise this august with the ‘noctiluca’ mini lp, a six track collection set for release via copenhagen’s echocord. dutch producer boris bunnik has been releasing material under various guises over the past two decades such as conforce, versalife, hexagon, vernon felicity and of course silent harbour which he revisits here following 2015’s ‘hinterland’ on deep sound channel and the self-tilted inauguration of the project in 2012 on echocord. the beatless drones of ‘riparian’ open the package, perfectly setting the tone with murky bell like chimes, rumbling subs and splashes of white noise before title-track ‘noctiluca’ picks up the pace, tipping the focus over to bubbling dub echoes, glitched out, minute percussion and a sturdy muted kick to keep things driving. ‘dwelling’ is up next, featuring expansive, washed out synth textures, cavernous bass tones and modulating percussion throughout. leading on the b-side of the release is ‘peridinum’, employing classic dub techno tropes with an amalgamation of choppy stab sequences dynamically evolving over off-beat hats and a thunderous kick. ‘fusiformis’ strips things rhythmically whilst keeping the bubbling delays and expansive reverbs at it’s core before closing track ‘pelagia’ brings bright, resonant synth lines, delayed percussive hits and tension building synth bass into the limelight.

aussteiger is a berlin based german dj / producer. he runs the dub disco label in berlin and dj’s around the world. zusammenkunft is his debut album released on copenhagen’s music for dreams. once upon a time a golden boy came back from the shadows. rumors were told that he once left the big city in a time where the music scene and clubs were dominated by cold music and average beats. he left behind civilisation, living withdrawn in the woody mountains of a covert place. from there on people talked about him as aussteiger. connected to the nature and deeply rooted in the harmonic essence, aussteiger became a part of the great whole. in a full moon illuminated clear night while experimenting with various unique herbs he accidentally found a recipe to create warm and ravishing music. he firmly believes that music is his infinite source to gather strength and positive energy after years of strengthening himself and shaping vibrant sounds aussteiger decided to share his delightful music with the world. he returned from his retreat in order to enchant the music lovers all over the world with his feel good approach and supernatural sounds. coming back to the city, he also co-founded the awesome dub disco label with his buddy serj nosé.

-soca trance- will bring some extra heat on the dance floor, it s a heavily cut-up, rough electronic soca rhythm with fragments of looped steeldrum melody on top. -i m alive- is another latin banger, a piece of proto house with some lush vocals in the background and a synthesized tropical bird flying over. on the flip, kalao is an underground afro/french drum track with lots of flanged percussion, cheering black vocals and an elephant passing by. body & soul is the most discoish edit of all: a hypnotic groove with a killer baseline (and a flute sound) interrupted by an uplifting drumbreak.

bikiniarz is the newly launched imprint of german producer sawlin, known for his seminal releases on delsin records and vault series. with this label, sawlin goes back to his musical roots while integrating the various influences that shaped his style ever since he decided to become a musician: subtly indebted to the 90 s while living up to contemporary big room standards. the releases are resolutely out of the box, yet groovy as hell and meant to be played out loud in underground techno clubs.

july sees radio slave’s rekids invite britain’s renowned swayzak to the roster with a cold war themed release entitled ‘odessa calling’ ep. a name associated with quality, swayzak’s ability to retain their signature sound whilst producing across various sub-genres has cemented them a solid reputation since their humble beginnings in the 90s. their impressive back catalogue includes six studio albums and appearances on labels like k7, m_nus, curle, ellum and swayzak’s own label 240 volts, which was relaunched in 2017. originally a duo comprised of david brown and james taylor, brown has been helming the project solo since 2012. he now joins respected berlin-based imprint rekids with two inspired productions. ‘odessa calling’ is a mysterious track with hypnotic synths, mesmerising pads and enigmatic vocals that combine together to create a celestial aesthetic. on the flipside, ‘numbers station’ continues with the otherworldly feel employing shimmering percussion that wanders alongside a brooding bassline for a well refined finish to the package.

peter kadergard has been active in the helsingborg (sweden) electronic music scene since the early 1990 s. he was involved in various collaborations during the 90 s and appeared on a few cassette releases under the names grodans fodelsedag, marchentraum and mannix system. peter released his first rittowski record on the borft sub label djuring phonogram in 2004. apart from this electro project peter is a member of the bands goz mongo alliance and inyurmania, who has made a few releases on the ufo mongo, pripuzzi and skiboy record labels. this is new electro!

it is with a huge amount of pride and happiness that i get to welcome legendary producer and all round good egg liquid to the label. if liquid needs an introduction, i have to wonder what you are doing here? seriously though, he has brought an absolutely amazing ep of four brilliant tracks to the label. the truth is classic liquid piano anthem style, like a modern version of “sweet harmony”. kex and phormocide lean into old skool from various eras, and dope sick rounds the ep off with a futuristic retro amen workout, easily one of my favorite tunes since kniteforce restarted as a vinyl label. this ep is the bizniz basically. do not miss!

dauwd returns to technicolour with -theory of colours - versions- ep. a new 4-tracker ep containing remixes/reworks of various singles from his debut album. the ep opens with a piano rework of analogische memories , recoded at his studio in berlin and the result of countless hours work - -it took some time, as i had to learn to play piano- dauwd explains. dauwd also makes up one third of the berlin collective, party and radio show, african acid is the future having previously released on kompakt and ghostly international. ukrainian music producer and leleka label boss vakula provides a remix of macadam therapy . fresh from the release of his well received lp -metaphors- and following on from last years -techno game- released via arma and -cyclicality between procyon and gomeisa- released via dekmantel in 2016. aaitf partner romain azzaro aka rouge mécanique provides two remixes of murmure (one -walking-, the other -running-) - -romain and i returned to the studio where i made much of the album in utrecht in the netherlands. we got to experiment again with many of the wonderful machines they had there, in particular the original roland system 700-.
